Treasures and Memories is an imaginative illustration of "Wool and Water," a chapter in Lewis Carroll's Through The Looking Glass. In this chapter of the story Alice wanders into a shop where the shopkeeper is an old sheep wearing a shawl and knitting. The shop has shelves filled with all variety of curious items. Many of the objects in the painting are the artist's own and some have a story and are connected with a loved person or memory.
The scene is deliberately quiet. No object included makes a sound except the ticking of the clocks. It is 9:10 in the morning. The shopkeeper has just arrived. The Chinese checkers are poised for a happenchance game. The effect is one of delightful serenity and warm feelings.
