The inspiration and design for Wild Places has no particular origin but is simply a fanciful, tropical jungle scene. This early painting established many characteristics of paintings that followed. The highly detailed background and use of motifs, such as the fan design across the back of the trees and the rose pattern on the jungle floor, became a necessary element of Trish's style and a method for linking the paintings to each other. A distinct departure from standard design practice is the avoidance of central focal points. The artist takes the risk of trusting her own instincts rather than adhering to established rules.
